“Dipingo perché già da bambina intuivo che c’era un modo più profondo di stare al mondo.
Circondata dalle architetture grigie e incombenti di una piccola città di provincia, demolivo e ricostruivo, facendo della materia epidermide, della pittura, ragione di vita.
Ero solo una bambina quando l’arte mi ha salvato”
“I paint because as a child I sensed that there was a deeper way of being in the world. Surrounded by the looming, grey architecture of a small provincial town, I demolished and reconstructed, using the materials as an epidermis, of painting, a reason for living.
I was only a child when art saved me.”
“Рисую, потому что уже детстве чувствовала, что это мой способ бытия в мире. Окруженная серой архитектурой угрожающих размеров маленького провинциального городка, я мысленно разрушала и реконструктуировала. Живопись стала смыслом моей жизни.
Я был еще ребенком, когда искусство меня спасло.”
Ester Maria Negretti, 1978 Como.
“It is the future that conditions the present, as when Michelangelo created the Pietà: every stroke was in the vision of the future, not of the presentnor of the past.”
She follows the vocation of painting since she was a child, receiving her first prize at the age of eleven. The journey towards art continues through the study of textile design, in which she graduates at “Setificio di Como”. Afterwards she collaborated with several design studios creating wallpapers, furniture and clothing. Then, Negretti decides to attend Brera for two years; but instead of carrying on an academic path, she feels the desire to follow the good Renaissance tradition: Negretti forms her painting technique in the “studio” of expert painters learning on the field the trade secrets, thus strengthening a solid preparation and a growing interest in contemporary art. Having refined her taste, she decides to devote herself exclusively to painting. Her work, her style and her very personal technique receive approval and growing interest from critics and audiences, and the favour of collectors since the first solo exhibition in 2002.
She has brought her artworks to many cities, just to mention a few: Roma, Florence, Milan, Como, Benevento, Mantua, Genoa, Venice, Oslo, Paris, Boston, Lugano, Zurich, San Vincenzo, Isola d’Elba.
The last artistic research of Ester Maria Negretti is dedicated to water. Outside the walls of the atelier, the wide spaces, the physical and mental vastness of the new marine reality, transform Negretti’s artworks. Canvases become gigantic as the sea and the air which knows no restraint.
